Studio Vert, your perfect base to explore the Pyrénées

Updated: Mar 4, 2020

Accommodation at Studio Vert offers the perfect base where you can fuel up with our vegan breakfast before heading out to explore our amazing region and come back to a hearty vegan buffet on your return.

We have put together 3 self-guided tours which are a fantastic way to explore the many fascinating and unique locations and historical sites of the French and Spanish sides of Catalonia.

This week we start with the Explorer Tour to help you discover the perfectly preserved medieval villages, famous market towns and vineyards, incredible landscapes and many delights that the area of Catalonia offers. We can guide you on arrival at Studio Vert and we'll recommend some vegan pitstops for you to try.

THE EXPLORER TOUR : Itinerary

Day 1 Arrive in Laroque-des-Ablères

We meet you at Studio Vert in the Albera mountains for a welcome glass of local vegan wine where you can unpack your bags, settle and enjoy magnificent views as well as our buffet-style dinner.

Day 2 Perpignan city

This beautiful medieval town is the capital of the French Catalonia region and heart of the wine area. Make time to visit the Palais des Rois de Majorques and the Cathedral St Jean Baptiste before visiting our favourite vegan stops : Frida’s or 2VB (the 2veganboys) for lunch.

Day 3 A smorgasbord of possibility from Villefranche de Conflent : ramparts, Fort, C

aves or yellow train, the choice is yours

This packed day will see you leave early to get to the medieval village of Villefranche de Conflent. After a stroll through the town’s cobbled streets you can head to visit the ramparts or you can visit the Fort Libéria that was recently inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Caves of les canalettes, deemed one of the most beautiful caves in France are well worth a visit and great during hot days!!.

Villefranche-de-Conflent is also the Yellow Train’s starting point, a symbol of Catalonia and its colours. A Trip on "Le petit train jaune" is surprising and a must-do.

Day 4 Figueres, Spain

The Town of Figueres is only 40 mins South of Studio Vert and is the site of the Dalí Theatre-Museum which houses the largest collection of Dalí-related art objects. The outside alone is a work of art! Book online and skip the line!! For a perfect end to your visit grab some lunch or dinner at Integral Restaurant, a vegetarian/vegan restaurant just a stone-throw away from the museum which has a decent wine list and delicious food. Check the opening times before heading out!

Day 5 Visit of the Byrrh Caves

Only about 40 minutes by car North-West of Studio Vert you will find yourself in the town of Thuir well-known for its Caves Byrrh. A visit of the cellar is a must and the degustation at the end will probably see you return to Studio Vert with a sample of this unusual elixir! The cellar houses the largest oak cask in the world as well as the rich history of the brand. Before returning why not head to the village of Castelnou, one of France's favourite villages.

Collioure Market town

You can work up a sweat by walking the coastal path from the beautiful beach of Le Racou (little corner in Catalan) to get to the pearl of the Vermillion Coast, the beautiful and famous town of Collioure... or you can just drive yourself there in about 25 min. Any day is a perfect day in this picture-perfect place, with its royal castle by the sea, its picturesque port, its sunny café terraces, its narrow cobbled streets with local artist galleries... Stroll, stroll away! You can then get back behind the wheel and drive south to the small towns of Port-Vendres and Banyuls also worth a visit.

Day 6 Les Orgues et village de Eus

This morning we will drive towards Ille-sur-Tet where you will find the amazing natural rock formation known as the Orgues d'Ille-sur-Tet. Then head to the village of Eus which is an unusual stone village popular with artists, great for a stroll and to gain unobstructed views over the majestic Mount Canigou.

Day 7 Laroque-des-Albères

If you feel like staying local why not take a stroll down to visit our village of Laroque-des-Albères, or select one of the many trails of all different levels through the Mountains of the Albera mountain. The magnificent views will be the perfect end to your stay prompting you to plan your next trip before your departure.
